Italian Fashion

Although culture has existed for hundreds of years in Italy, the spotlight has been shed more recently on the fashion world.

Count Giorgini brought it to the forefront in 1951 when he held a fashion show in his stately palace in Florence. He rekindled the myth of the noble classes by opening up his palace to present fashion collections to an international audience. The elaborate showcase romanticized fashion during this time period and the interest in the industry has never left the thread of Italian life. Considered during the fifties, as a means of self-assertion in society, dress was used to publicly identify a person's class and wealth in society.

Then the sixties arrived and things changed with the pending years of protest and industrial boom. New styles in manufactured garments entered the scene affording all women worldwide to dress fashionably at minimal cost. The societal lines began to fade, as women from all walks of life appeared donned in the latest trends. Italian fashion gained great recognition during the seventies and eighties when Milan became a fashion landmark. Still today, Italy is considered one of the fashion capitals of the world.
